Brian has achieved his own unique style of watercolour painting by developing a method in which he works on a base of original gesso. Each glaze takes time to create as it dries by evaporation and is a slow process. He finds that this method of working allows him to move the paint around the surface and enables him to achieve softly blended colours and other effects that he desires.
His work is importantly about atmosphere, whether it be the poignancy of a rusty old vehicle or object that once served a pupose in life, or the quietness of a lonely spot in the countryside – to him these are the essence of what he wishes to capture in his very evocative paintingst
It is these paintings that over the last few years have been selected for the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour exhibition in the Mall Galleries London and for the Guild of Railway Artists of which he is an associate member.
